Today's Quote Board

Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.

or is it...
Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

MLK Jr.

The news of Sunday set the computer world on fire!  Americans were either dancing in the streets, or reflective and cautious to react.  I've been off Twitter for a week or two, and have as yet experienced no ill effects from my weaning. I'm suspicious of Facebook and therefore refuse to participate.  But I still received the erroneous King quote (see above, add a line about killing enemies) via email.

Do you ever have those moments when your subconscious is thinking "Hm, something isn't right," but your conscious moves on?  That was how I responded to the King quote, and I forwarded it to a friend, wrote it on the quote board, and learned shortly afterward that the quote was inaccurate.

The shortened quote is still a good one. Maybe.  Searching the Internet proved dubious, as there are many similar quotes attributed to MLK.  These are the times when I miss news in print and hard copy books. Paper and ink are that tactile path to truth, fact, and accuracy. The Internet is a wishy-washy street where innuendo and lazy research are encouraged and flourish (should that be my new blog logo?!).
