Harvest Moon Bloody Mary


This is the week of the Harvest Moon and my favorite time of the year.  The smells of earth and dirt and decaying leaves and apples are a promise of renewal.  Too often it feels like we are hurling forward, always in motion, always running toward the next thing, the next season.  But this is the week when I will rest and breathe deeply and just take it all in.  I will feel the power of the full moon, as people have done for thousands of years, and be grateful for the harvest.  We’ll play a little Neil Young, watch football, and enjoy this spicy cocktail.
Harvest Moon Bloody Mary
Tomatoes
Red pepper
Chili peppers
Cucumber, skin and seeds removed
Small bit of onion and garlic
Horseradish
Worcestershire
Lime
Celery salt, chili powder
Salt and pepper

Blend or process all ingredients; push through sieve.  Add vodka to taste.  Shake with ice and serve in glass rimmed with celery salt and chili powder.
