Fairly Finished

Our final State Fair day and we were in the zone. The weather: perfect, sunny, cool. My Fair Foot (an affliction commonly brought on by walking the Fairgrounds in flip flops, but my case resulted from a few too many miles in some Chuck T's): vanished like a box of French fries in a crowd of teens on the Midway. Our goal: complete our list of must-see, must eat, and must buy. The Day: flawless.

Corn Dog Contemplations: There is no better iced coffee on earth than the stuff French Meadow serves at the Fair, and I'd pit their scones against any other pastries. In the Seed Art wing of the Ag Building we learned about seed bags from the guy who owns the collection always on display. Most of the bags are from the 30s and 40s. They were intended to hold seeds only once. Afterwards, the ink was easily washed away and the flax cloth used for aprons, dish towels, and dresses.  The Minnesota State Fair is one of the few places where Scandinavian heritage is still considered "Ethnic." On that note, here is a fun fact: American Swedish Institute curator Curt Pederson is also the Creative Activities Director and curator.

After some searching, we finally found a few real Magnums, although not the Tom Selleck variety.
