Maple Bacon Donuts

I think I know what you might be thinking.  Bacon AND donuts?  Too much of a good thing?  Trust me on this one: they are a perfect couple.  I started with a simple risen recipe and swapped out the shortening with bacon fat, and the sugar with maple syrup.  Four crispy strips of bacon gave the smooth dough some texture.  I'm still perfecting this recipe so today is for photos only.  Note: I do not own a donut cutter so improvised with the strainer and topper from my cocktail shaker.  Worked like a charm.





Tossed with powdered sugar and
bagged for my lucky, though skeptical, coworkers.
